This painting of a Whale Shark was done right in the heart of my fishy phase, around 1999, I think. I know it was while I was in the Wanneroo Art Society because I remember that it was purchased prior to the opening of the exhibition by the politician who was officiating at the opening.
The inspiration for this painting came from a family road trip to Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia, where marine life abounds and swimming with whale sharks is a popular activity.
You can tell this is one of my earlier works by the poor photography skills. The photo is not quite square-on and if you look carefully, you can see the reflection of my feet in the picture because I made the mistake of framing before photographing. That always gives me a bit of a chuckle when I look at it.
