If your world goes pear-shaped, try a new one.

Tallebudgera 95cm x 68cm inc frame

My world was thrown into chaos in September 2001 when Ansett Australia shut its doors and my husband lost his job.  Suddenly I was back in the workforce as a bookkeeper and there was no time for painting.  We made the move to the Gold Coast in March 2002 and it was another six months before he landed a job with Virgin Blue and so I was working at three different jobs to try and help keep us afloat.  That is why you will see very few paintings of mine from this era.

When the time came that I could again start painting, I thought I would try my hand at oils.  I really love the intense colours and with a bit more practice I probably would have improved in that medium but I didn’t like the fumes, so I eventually reverted to my old favourite, acrylics.

This painting, Pandanus, is one of the few oil paintings of mine that I really like.  I love the colours and patterns on the trunks of the Pandanus Palms.  They are such an iconic feature of the Gold Coast that naturally they were one of my first subjects.
